Pharmacological action
The effect of dexamethasone is basically similar to that of hydrocortisone, but the effect is long, the effective time is long, and the side effects are small. The effect of gluconeogenesis and gluconeogenesis is 25 times that of hydrocortisone, while the effect of sodium retention and potassium excretion is slightly smaller than that of hydrocortisone. Intramuscular injection showed a rapid systemic effect in dogs, with peak blood concentrations at 0.5 hours and a half-life of about 48 hours, mainly excreted in feces and urine.
Indications
0.2% Dexamethason injection is used for severe infectious diseases, such as various sepsis, toxic pneumonia, toxic bacillary dysentery, peritonitis, and postpartum urgency
Adjuvant therapy for sexual metritis; treatment of allergic diseases, such as allergic rhinitis, urticaria, allergic respiratory inflammation, acute foot-and-leaf inflammation, allergic eczema, etc.; shock treatment caused by various reasons; ketonemia and ovine toxemia of pregnancy, etc.; and induction of simultaneous delivery in cattle and sheep.
Dosage and administration
Intramuscular and intravenous injection: daily dose, 1:25 ~ 2:5ml for horses; 2:5 ~ 10ml for cattle; 2 ~ 6ml for sheep and pigs; 0:0625 ~ 0:5ml for dogs and cats. Intra-articular injection: 1 ~ 5ml for horses and cattle.
Adverse effects
(1) Strong sodium and water retention and potassium excretion.
(2)It has a strong immunosuppressive effect.
(3)Large doses in late pregnancy can cause abortion.
(4)It can lead to dullness, dry hair, weight gain, wheezing, vomiting, diarrhea, elevated hepatic drug-metabolizing enzymes, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal ulcers, lipemia, triggering or exacerbating diabetes, muscle atrophy, and behavioral changes (depression, lethargy, and aggression) in dogs, which may require discontinuation of the drug.
(5)Occasionally, polydipsia, polyphagia, polyuria, weight gain, diarrhea, or depression are seen in cats. Prolonged treatment with high doses can result in Cushingoid syndrome.
Precautions
(1) Strictly grasp the indications to prevent abuse.
(2)It should be used in combination with antibacterial drugs for bacterial infections.
(3)It is contraindicated in animals with severe poor liver function, osteochondrosis, fracture treatment period, wound repair period and vaccination period.
(4)It is contraindicated in dams in early and late pregnancy.
(5)Long-term use cannot be abruptly discontinued and should be tapered until discontinuation.
Withdrawal period
21 days for cattle, sheep and pigs during the recess period; 72 hours for the abandonment period.
Storage
Store in sealed containers, protected from light.
