Composition
Each bolus contains:
Niclosamide: 1250mg.
Pharmacology and Toxicology
This product can inhibit the oxidative phosphorylation process of mitochondria in the tapeworm cells. At high concentrations, it can inhibit the respiration of the worm body and block the uptake of glucose, thereby causing it to deteriorate. The drug can destroy the head and anterior segment of the body segment, and part of it is digested and difficult to identify when it is discharged. This product has no killing effect on eggs.
Indications
Niclosamide bolus is used for animal tapeworm infections. It is a good medicine for the treatment of Taenia saginata, Hymenoderma brevisiae, Schizocephala latifolia and other infections. It is also effective against Taenia solium, but it may increase the possibility of infection with cysticercosis after taking the medicine.
Sheep and goats:
Moniezia spp., Stilesia spp., Avitellina spp. and immature intestinal Paramphistomiasis spp. in the pathogenic juvenile stage.(intestinal stage)
Dogs and Cats: Taenia spp., Dipylidium caninum, Echinococcus granulosus (tentatively).
Dosage & Administration
By oral administration:
Sheep and Goats : 75 – 80 mg of Niclosamide per kg Bodyweight or one bolus for 15 kg Bodyweight.
Cattle : 60 – 65 mg of Niclosamide per kg Bodyweight or one bolus for 20 kg Bodyweight
Dogs : 125 mg of Niclosamide per kg Bodyweight or one bolus for 10 kg Bodyweight
Cats : 125 mg of Niclosamide per kg Bodyweight or 1/3 bolus for 3.3 kg Bodyweight
Precautions
Sheep and goats can be turned out to wasteland which will not be used for grazing in the next weeks following the treatment, and which is exposed to intensive sunlight of the infested sheep, the lambs and the yearlings should in the first place be treated. In cattle, it is generally necessary to treat only the young animals up to 6-8 months old, as the older will develop immunity after this time. Niclosam can be used in pregnant animals. Niclosam should not be used in the presence of intestinal Atonia in order to avoid the risk of absorption of decomposition of the killed tapeworms.
